OPINION
Davinson Sanchez’s tough season to date continued in the first half against Fulham on Sunday. The Colombian looked pretty shaky from the first whistle and didn’t improve as the game continued. He was bailed out by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after inexplicably allowing himself to be spun by Ryan Babel. The World Cup winner denied Babel but the incident shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Sanchez needs to be more physically imposing because this sort of thing happens to him fairly regularly. He has to be stronger and win the ball after it was flicked on, not allow a 32-year-old Babel to turn him aside with ease. There’s no doubt that the young man has quality, but he needs to be more consistent. He isn’t as assured as team mates Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen and it showed once against in the first period on Sunday. Hopefully he puts a better shift in after the break.
