Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has criticised Everton after their defeat to Southampton and warned manager Marco Silva that he could be in danger.

The Toffees have lost three of their last four in the Premier League and the early shine of the Silva regime has well and truly gone. Murphy believes he needs to be careful.

“They are not looking like they were a couple of months ago,” he said on Match of the Day [19/01; 75:20]. “They are struggling. There’s too many players playing with a lack of confidence.

“There’s some question marks around the manager now,” he finished.

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with what Murphy is saying, here. In the early part of the season you could see that there was some real progress being made at Goodison Park. Now, though, it appears as if they are stuck in the mud. The players have zero confidence and it’s hurting them on the pitch. Everton have one of the most expensively assembled teams in the top flight, they should be doing much better than they are at the moment. Players like Andre Gomes, Seamus Coleman, Jordan Pickford and Richarlison should be stand-outs each and every week and that’s just not happening at present. The Portugal star, in particular, has majorly gone off the boil. He was tremendous when he first came into the team but that feels like a long time ago now. He’s not dictating play like he used to and it’s strange to see. With all that said, the blame must be put at Silva’s door. He’s failed to fix the problems at the club and he could end up paying the price for it.
