Generally, you find that club supporters will cheer their players on in internationals.

But that was definitely not the case when Heung-min Son lined up for South Korea today in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup. In fact, north London became a hotbed of support for Qatar in the Asian Cup today.

There’s an injury crisis in full flow at the moment in north London, with both Harry Kane and Dele Alli out until March.

With Son away, the attacking duties have been left to Fernando Llorente and he just doesn’t fit in the Tottenham team, despite him getting the only Spurs goal of the game in the Carabao Cup semi-final last night.

So there were plenty of interested Tottenham supporters keeping an eye on South Korea this afternoon, and their prayers were met as Qatar knocked Son’s side out, leaving him free to return to north London.

The news was announced in a ‘heartfelt post’ on the official Tottenham Twitter page.

We doubt he’ll be back in time to make the squad for the FA Cup game on Sunday, despite fans’ hopes, but he should definitely be in north London for the next Premier League game against Watford on Wednesday.

And, as you might imagine, that’s sent a lot of Spurs fans into delirium.

Here are the best reactions from relieved Tottenham fans:
