Tottenham will be amongst a host of clubs watching Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell when the Championship side face Reading tonight (Tuesday), according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog [11.38] on Tuesday that the 17-year-old midfielder has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs after he supplied an assist on his first senior start in the FA Cup clash with Bristol City on Friday night.

The Irish youth international has just six months left on his current contract in the north west, and it is understood that Bolton could be forced to sell him on this week on the face of a worrying financial situation at the club.

Good move for Tottenham?

Connell is a young, exciting prospect who has already caught the eye in his short foray into the senior game. The teenager is a versatile and hardworking talent, capable of playing at full-back or in midfield, and his natural creativity could be nurtured into a real talent. There are few team sin England as effective at bringing youth through the ranks as Spurs, and Connell could be the latest in a long line of precious youngsters who grow into real stars of the game in north London. The price would likely be cheap too.

Likely to happen?

Bolton are in no position to play hardball, and while it is a tragedy for the club, their precarious financial position means that they may be forced to sell their brightest young talent if any kind of respectable offer comes in. Spurs haven’t seemed to eager to spend this window, but that could change with a cut price swoop for a future star, and it would be well within Tottenham’s character to make that kind of move for football league prodigy.
