Tottenham have lined up a £20million bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot as Daniel Levy loosens the purse strings for a last-gasp deal, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the Spurs chairman is working on bringing the first player to the north London club in a year following their fallow window last summer.

The Sun report Everton are key to Tottenham pushing the deal over the line as their Rabiot bid will only succeed if PSG secure a replacement as they ready a £22million bid for Idrissa Gueye.

OPINION

The agony for Spurs fans desperate for their club to reinforce a squad that is flagging after punching above its weight again this season is that their Rabiot pursuit is dependent upon other parties. It is not just a matter of convincing the 23-year-old multiple title winner and France international to swap Paris for London, or that his career development would be best served by joining top-four regulars Spurs. It is not even a matter of agreeing a fee with PSG for a player who is available on a free at the end of the season. Understandably, the French champions want a replacement before they green light Rabiot’s departure, and they have been strongly linked with Gueye for most of January. Will Everton lend Tottenham a helping hand by letting the Senegal international go? Without a replacement of their own in place, that would appear unlikely at this stage, unless they need the money to fund a late-window striker capture.
