Sky Sports has reported a major twist in Mousa Dembele’s transfer.
Their live transfer blog (17.36) claims that he will now have a medical at Guangzhou R&F and not Beijing Guoan as had previously been reported.
Dembele flew out this morning for a medical but it now looks like it is with a second club.
Sky Sports have reported that Bejiing Guaon have also had a bid accepted from Tottenham.
OPINION
This was somewhat unexpected, although it won’t make any material difference to Tottenham – Dembele will still be leaving if he gets through his medical okay. However, it is a strange twist, and it might be that Tottenham can get more money from the sale if two clubs want to buy him. We can’t think of any other reason why he’d be going to another club for a medical after Spurs reportedly accepted a deal to sell him to the Beijing club. That deal is still on the cards but now there could be another bid on the table from Guangzhou R&F. It’s perhaps not surprising – the deal, set around £9-£11million would be a snip for a player of Dembele’s ability and Guangzhou might be looking to hijack a deal that seemed almost done. Tottenham fans will now be hoping that there are some incomings. They’ll be waiting for news on Harry Kane’s injury that he suffered in the game against Man United. If the club’s worst fears are realised, they might well need another striker.
