David Seaman revealed that with Tottenham being without both attackers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min for a few weeks that he was concerned for them.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper shared the fact that Kane’s injury was even worse than he previously thought as it was his left ankle that he had damaged and that with Son being away at the Asian Cup, then Spurs needed to get a replacement in.

Seaman revealed that he doubted whether Lucas Moura or Erik Lamela could feature as No.9 in order to get the goals to cover the losses of Son and Kane.

The retired footballer particularly focuses on how they’d struggle to cover for Kane being out as they’re just not the same type of players.

“It’s a massive blow for Tottenham as it’s not just Harry it’s Son as well as he is off on the Asian Cup, it’s a worry as he has done both ankles now as the recent one is his left one and he’d done the right one before and I saw on Sky Sports News that it was the other ankle so it’s even worse now,” said Seaman on Sky Sports News (Wednesday January 16th, 12:01).

“This one is going to be 11 games, 11 massive games, I think it takes him out the North London derby maybe the League Cup semi-final, final so it’s huge and what do Tottenham do now? They’ve got to act and get some money because to lose two players like is going to be a big miss.

“The fact they didn’t get anyone in the summer they were thinking yea okay, they had a good first eleven but if you get injuries, what you gonna do.

“Now they’ve got injuries, for me, would Lucas go in there and look to play No.9? I’m not sure and Lamela, they’re not type of Harry Kane players.

“So they really need someone on loan or something like that, I think they need a Harry Kane type of player that’s just not a goalscorer but he’s more than that, his contribution to the game, his laying off, that’s something that is really special.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with what Seaman is saying as while Lamela and Moura can score goals for Spurs, they’re not similar to Kane. While Son, if he hadn’t left to join up with his nation for the Asian Cup, probably could have cover for Kane in the No.9 position, you doubt there’s anyone else at Spurs who claimed the same. Fernando Llorente is a more natural fit for Kane while he is out until March, based on Spurs’ official update, but it’s telling Seaman doesn’t even mention him. The 33-year-old forward has been prolific during his time with Mauricio Pochettino’s side and it’s hard to see him changing that just because Kane has been sidelined. Seaman is therefore right to urge Spurs to splash cash on forward or find one to loan as with several important fixtures coming up, they can’t afford to drop their ball despite suffering two recent blows. However maybe fans should just start hoping that Moura and Lamela will be able to defy the likes of Seaman’s expectations in order to make Kane and Son’s absences irrelevant.
