Robbie Savage believes that Tottenham do not need to sign a striker in this transfer window as a short-term replacement for Harry Kane.
Kane is currently out with an ankle injury until March, and with Heung Min-Son only having just returned from his Asian Cup duties with South Korea, the need to sign a new forward looked to be a main priority.
However, the BT Sport pundit has rubbished the idea that Spurs need to sign a short-term replacement, as he could end up being a “£30 million” attacker just sitting on the bench when Kane makes his eventual return.
Savage also hailed in-demand manager Mauricio Pochettino, branding him as the Premier League’s “great overachiever”.
The big question for Pochettino now is whether he goes out and buys a striker as cover for Kane before the transfer window shuts next week – but on balance, the answer is no,” he said in his Mirror column.
“Once the England captain is fit again, his replacement is going to be potentially a £30million striker on the bench, which is never a recipe for contentment.
“Trophy or not, Pochettino is the Premier League’s great overachiever.”

Savage is pretty harsh to have laid into the Spurs manager in the way that he has. Pochettino has done a fantastic job at Tottenham, even if they have not won any trophies while he has been in charge of the team. One thing is for sure though, they would not have been considered as title contenders this year if it were not for Pochettino. He is the main reason why they have risen to prominence in the last few seasons, and why teams are starting to fear facing them. However, he is right about whether Spurs should bring in a new striker in this transfer window. What if they did end up spending around £30 million on them, only for them to be sidelined once Kane returned? Not only would this be a waste of money, it would also be a waste of the player’s talent. Now South Korea have crashed out of the Asian Cup, Heung Min-Son is one of the players the fans are going to pin their hopes on for the time being.
