Tottenham will be back in the title race if Manchester City inflict the first league defeat of the season upon Liverpool tonight (Thursday), according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs goalkeeper has not ruled his ex-employers out of ending their five-decade title quest but claimed Jurgen Klopp’s side will be almost uncatchable if they triumph at the Etihad Stadium.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Robinson explained that a City win brings Spurs “back into the race” as he predicted Pep Guardiola’s side will triumph in “a memorable game”.

OPINION

Robinson is spot-on. It IS a title decider at Etihad Stadium, worth far more than the six-point swing either way. Should Liverpool triumph, it is hard to see even this brilliant Man City side, who broke records last season en route to their title stroll and have left legions of observers gasping at their excellence over the last 18 months, stopping a red march to the title. A triumph for the leaders would take them 10 points clear and require a stunning meltdown to prevent them ending nearly three decades of title hurt. As for Spurs, they have churned out results at a consistent rate – the best in the club’s Premier League history – this season and they will be hoping City do them a favour by at least securing a share of the spoils at Etihad Stadium. That might be preferable to a City win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as it might stem the Guardiola-led juggernaut getting the momentum to steamroller all opposition over the coming months.
