With Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side currently undergoing something of an attacking injury crisis, the Argentine must recall Josh Onomah from his loan at Sheffield Wednesday this month.

The 21-year-old is himself injured at the moment, and has not featured since Boxing Day, but could provide key depth in the Spurs squad, especially given the Londoners’ current injury woes.

Dele Alli was the latest Spurs player to be sidelined after limping off with a hamstring injury against Fulham on Sunday, and the England international is set to miss Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea, as reported by the Sun.

While Onomah would obviously not be ready for that tie, his return to Wembley could be a vital boost in the second half of the season.

The past few weeks have proven that Spurs need more bodies to deal with the stresses of numerous competitions, and with the likelihood of the club spending this January looking slim, it makes sense for them to exercise the option of bringing one of their brightest youth prospects back into the fold.

The England youth international has proven his quality with successful loan spells at Aston Villa and now Wednesday, and is fully deserving of showing he has the quality to cut it at the top level.

Pochettino isn’t afraid to give youth a chance, and this could be another opportunity for Spurs to let a young star break through.

It would increase the club’s Spurs chance of ending their 11-year trophy drought ahead of a string of marquee fixtures.
