Mauricio Pochettino does have major cash to spend in the transfer market this month, according to the Daily Mail.

Tottenham did not make any signings over the summer, and have yet to conduct any business during the current window, but it is understood that Daniel Levy has been “prepared to spend significantly” this month to give his squad a boost.

Spurs have been ravaged by injuries in recent weeks, and have been dumped out of both the FA and Carabao Cups in the past week.

It is believed that Pochettino went into the market seeking to recruit a new striker and a cover in central midfield, but has yet to make a move for either as Levy wants for the green light from the manager.

OPINION

This will be a hugely frustrating development for Tottenham fans. It’s one thing to think that the money isn’t there for transfers, but to find out it was and it wasn’t used is almost worse. It’s fair enough that Pochettino is keen to keep his squad small and to create a tight knit group, but past few weeks have shown how dangerous a policy that can be, and injuries to key players have all but ended any hopes Tottenham have of lifting a trophy this season. It’s admirable that the Argentine doesn’t want to go into the market unless he believes he is signing a player who can genuinely improve his squad, but that has cost his side in terms of their strength in depth, and will surely be looked back on as a grave mistake. Spurs fans will have pretty much written this season off now, apart from a speculative attempt at the Champions League, but the hope will be that it provides a wake up call for the boss in the summer.
