Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is undergoing a Sheffield United medical as he finalises a loan move, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim that the Championship’s third-placed club will finalise the capture of the 26-year-old today (Tuesday) and it will be announced in the next 24 hours.

Football Insider report Villa manager Dean Smith is happy to green light the exit of Hogan until the end of the season after he slipped down the striker pecking order.

OPINION

It is unsurprising that Villa have green lighted the temporary exit of Hogan, after he slipped to fourth choice for the central striker role, behind main man Tammy Abraham, and the back-ups Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis. Hogan will become United’s third signing of the window, and it is intriguing as to whether he has been signed as a first choice or just as cover. Villa fans would surely raise their eyebrows if Hogan were to go straight into the first XI of the Championship’s third-placed team. Certainly, the former Brentford man has it all to do to get his career back on track. His two years at Villa Park have been mostly miserable ones since signing from Sheffield United two Januarys ago for a fee of £12million. A return of  just 10 goals from 61 Villa matches is a piffling one, and further evidence of how fee of the Midlands’ giants major buys have flopped since their Premier League relegation.
