Kevin Pietersen slammed Manchester United after their 1-0 win over Tottenham as he believed Twitter had got carried away about how good they were.

The retired cricketer took to his official Twitter account which has 3.76million followers in order to claim that everyone was getting carried away by Man United’s win over Spurs and asked everyone to shut it.

Pietersen then pointed out that in his opinion Manchester United weren’t even the best team in Manchester, referencing Manchester City, and highlighted the fact they weren’t currently sat in the Premier League’s top four.

“Bloody hell, by reading Twitter it would suggest that are winning the Premier League & just won the Champions League,” tweeted the famous retired cricketer.

“They’re not even in the top 4 & you are the SECOND best team in Manchester! Will people just SHUT IT!”

OPINION

It seems Pietersen wanted to make sure no Man United fans got carried away after Sunday’s win against Spurs and seemed rather aggressive about the whole thing. It was an impressive win by Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side as Spurs have been in top form this season so it’s easy to see why he had to urge fans to pipe down. However it’s unclear why he felt the need to take a dig at Man United directly by claiming Manchester City were better, as it’s not their fault fans were thrilled to beat Spurs at Wembley. Also given that the game had just occurred, it seems Pietersen could have been more understanding that Man United fans just wanted to celebrate and allow themselves to get carried away. Yet he just seems too quick to want to highlight Man City and Man United’s current league position in order to bring him down, who knows maybe he has a soft spot for Spurs.
