Robbie Keane shared that he was concerned for Tottenham after Harry Kane appeared to sustained an injury at the end of the 1-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

The former Spurs forward claimed that Daniel Levy needed to help Mauricio Pochettino’s squad out by signing a back-up attacker as in his opinion the 25-year-old look liked he could be out for three or four weeks.

Keane also added that he believed Tottenham didn’t have a chance of winning the Premier League title this season after their lost to Manchester United and claimed the championship was heading to either Manchester City or Liverpool as a result.

“It didn’t look good when he was walking off the pitch, the physio was over there for a few minutes and it took him a long time to walk off the field and that’s not a good sign,” said Keane when covering the Spurs’ 1-0 loss to Manchester United (Sky Sports Premier League, Sunday January 13th, 19:12pm).

“That’s ligaments (Keane said after being shown the clip again) that’s a good few weeks out and that’s a big problem.

“We always knew they were an outside chance (winning Premier League), don’t think they have a chance now of winning it if they finished in top four they’ll still in the top competitions, erm I thought they had an outside chance, I still think it’s going to be between Man City and Liverpool.

“They definitely need to get someone in I’d say in this window if he is out for a few weeks as back-up, they have to do if Harry, that looks like, I’ve done my ankle many times and 3-4 weeks job, can you afford to lose Kane for that long, you’ve got to Llorente and he’s a great pro and he’ll do a job for you but he’s not a prolific goalscorer.

“So maybe it’s time Daniel (Levy) does something and help the squad out.”

OPINION

Keane is completely right to suggest it would be a big problem if Kane was set for a number of weeks on the sidelines through injury. The Spurs forward is head and shoulders above Pochettino’s other attacking options, especially with Son Heung-min heading off to compete in the Asian Cup. Therefore it does seem clear that Daniel Levy has to somehow get a top-quality forward through the door in January just like Keane suggests if Spurs are to stay competing at the top of the division. However given how much a prolific attacker can cost, especially when everyone will realise Spurs could be desperate for one, it may be a near impossible task. If Pochettino ends up having to rely on Fernando Llorente to score his side’s goals, it may see the club lose pace not just in the Premier League title race, but in their bid to finish in the top four. Yet if you’re a Spurs fan, you’ll just be hoping Kane’s potential injury isn’t as bad as Keane seems to think.
