Stan Collymore has heaped praise on Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, suggesting that he would have loved to play for him.

The Argentine oversaw a fraught last minute 2-1 win against Fulham on Sunday evening to ensure that his side stayed third in the Premier League table.

Taking to his personal Twitter in the aftermath of the match, former Liverpool man Collymore retweeted an excerpt from a Pochettino interview.

He also said: “Would loved to have played for the guy, everything about him comes across as authentic.”

OPINION

In a modern game littered with coaches with huge personalities, Pochettino manages to make his mark by being constantly pleasant and understated, and there are few players in world football who wouldn’t want to play for him. The fact that he has achieve that reputation without winning any silverware at Tottenham is genuinely impressive, and it stands as testament to his character. You would struggle to find a group with as much togetherness as Spurs have, and it really is the cornerstone of their consistent success under Pochettino. The fact that he is so widely revered, not just as a manager, but as a person, would make losing him even harder to take, and Spurs fans will be praying that he stays for a long time to come. If he does go, so many of the players who are crucial to Spurs’ success are so synonymous with him that there will be genuine concerns of an exodus.
