Left-back Jaden Brown has confirmed that he has left the club amid reports of an imminent switch to Premier League rivals Huddersfield Town.

The 19-year-old defender posted on Instagram on Tuesday to confirm his exit, although he stopped short of announcing his next destination with the Terriers reported to be engaged in talks.

Brown leaves the club after nine years in the academy, and says he will be ‘forever grateful’ to Spurs for their part in his development.

OPINION

Ever since reports began circling regarding a January exit for Brown it seemed likely that such a move would take place. The young left-back is highly regarded at the club but has never been able to break into the first-team set-up, with players like Danny Rose and Ben Davies firmly ahead of him in the pecking order. Brown embarked on the club’s pre-season trip to the USA in 2017, but was left out this season, which now looks telling after his confirmed exit. The feeling within the club is that Brown has what it takes to forge a successful career in the professional game, and an exit does look to be a move which makes sense for all parties. Brown is obviously not quite up to standard at Spurs, so a move to a smaller club like Huddersfield should really help him develop into a star at senior level. He will be hoping he can prove Spurs wrong in some way, although he is evidently grateful for the club’s role in his career so far.
