Mousa Dembele is on the verge of quitting Tottenham for China and he is set to be followed through the exit door by Vincent Janssen, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster claim Dembele is closing in on an £11million transfer to Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan this month as chairman Daniel Levy gets busy on clearing the decks.

The BBC report Holland international Janssen is also set for a January transfer after failing to make any impression at the club since his arrival in the summer of 2016.

OPINION

Dembele will be sorely missed by the Spurs faithful. Janssen will not be. The brilliant Belgian will go down as one of the club’s finest central midfielders of the Premier League era, as influential in his way as Luka Modric once was. As for Janssen, he will scuttle out the back door with barely a backwards glance from anyone. He has stunk the place out since Tottenham forked out £18million for him two-and-a-half years ago. Despite the massive rise in transfer fees since that point, the club would do well to recoup even half their fee, even though he is 24 and a regular international. Meanwhile, £11million for Dembele is decent business and nearly what the club paid to sign him from Fulham in the summer of 2012. The Belgium international was signed as an attacking midfielder who could bring invention and goal scoring to the team. In the event, he provided little of either. But what he gave the team in spades was control of the midfield through his delightful combination of power and technique. How he will be missed.
