West Brom are in the final stages of securing a loan deal for Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy in a deal which will not involve any other players, according to journalist Matt Wilson.

The Express and Star writer claims on his personal Twitter account that the winger is closing in on a temporary move to the Hawthorns from St James’ Park but that it will not involve any terms regarding the future of Salomon Rondon on Tyneside or Dwight Gayle in the midlands, the Venezuelan having headed to the north east on loan in the summer as the Newcastle man moving in the opposite direction.

It is stated that Murphy’s move will simply be a straight up loan for now, having struggled for game time at the Magpies this season.

Good move for West Brom?

Murphy is a proven Championship talent who needs a move away from St James’ Park to get his career back on track and so West Brom are getting their hands on a player desperate to do well.

He knows exactly what it takes to be a success in the second tier and while wide men might not be the Baggies’ top priority it will be a big boost to the quality of the squad for the second half of the season.

He will bring an attacking mindset to the Hawthorns with no fear of what the opposition defence and that should help West Brom to keep their promotion bid firmly on track.

Likely to happen?

With Miguel Almiron at St James’ Park now it seems as though Murphy’s game time is going to be slashed and so a departure is an absolute must.

It appears as though West Brom have won the race for his signing and this should be done before Thursday’s deadline at 11PM.

Of course the fans should wait before getting his name on the back of their shirts – transfer deadline day is funny when it comes to deals falling through.
