Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin Teda are in talks for Newcastle United striker Joselu, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian outlet claim on their website that as well as the Chinese club targeting a move for the Magpies’ Spanish attacker – who is on £40,000-a-week [Spotrac] – they are also on the trail of Brazilian midfielder Ralf.

The report adds that the Magpies have already opened negotiations over a potential move for the player and Tianjin are eager to get the ball rolling in order to get the 28-year-old on their books this season.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes, it would absolutely be a great move for the Magpies if they were to offload one of their strikers, even if it is to a surprise suitor like Tianjin. Joselu has been woeful this term, and Rafa Benitez no doubt wants him off the books, something which the fans will definitely echo. It will free up space in their current squad to get somebody of quality to join their ranks, and it would provide them with more funds to get the players Benitez desires.

Likely to happen?

Who knows whether this is a move that is likely to happen. Chinese clubs have been in the news a lot lately, so it remains to be seen just how accurate this report is. However, if it is accurate, then a move could happen fast, as the club are no doubt over the moon to sell one of their worst players. Newcastle fans will no doubt be waiting in anticipation if this potential switch materialises – so watch this space.
