Newcastle have enquired about a January deal for Borussia Monchengladbach winger Patrick Herrmann, according to Transfer Market Web.

The Italian outlet report that the 27-year-old speed machine, who has two caps for Germany, could potentially leave Monchengladbach this month.

TMW claim that Herrmann has also been approached by Crystal Palace and Southampton, with two Bundesliga sides also interested.

The forward is out of contract with Monchengladbach in the summer.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Yes.

Herrmann is a lightning-quick winger with quality delivery and an eye for goal who would add a whole lot to a floundering attack at Newcastle.

The 27-year-old has only ever played in Germany, spending basically the whole of his career with Monchengladbach, meaning he may need a period of acclimatisation before making an impact in England.

However, once that happens he would be a huge weapon for the Magpies, who are lacking a bit of cutting edge going forward.

Likely to happen?

It looks like it is early days in Newcastle’s interest in Herrmann, and they are facing some heavy competition for his signature.

However, it does look like a January exit is on the cards for the winger, who has played just 11 times in all competitions this season.
