Newcastle United are in pursuit of Guningamp striker Marcus Thuram, according to Team Talk.

The reliable news outlet reports on their website that Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is keen to take him to Tyneside, but they face competition from the likes of Arsenal, who have revved up their interest in the in-form forward recently.

Brighton, Cardiff and Southampton are amongst the six other Premier League clubs who have kept tabs on the ten goal attacker in the last few weeks – and there is the possibility that any of them could swoop in the remaining days of the transfer window.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes, this would absolutely be a good move for Newcastle this month. They could really do with a striker who has a keen eye for goal, and Thuram looks like he could be that player. Ten goals so far is not the most prolific of goal tallies, but it is definitely one that shows signs of promise and improvement. Swooping for him could be the best move that they make this window, so they should do it as soon as they can.

Likely to happen?

At the moment, considering there are so many clubs interested in the dazzler, the chances of signing Thuram in this window remain very slim indeed. That being said, the fact that Arsenal are also interested does not help their case in any way as it’s more alluring to join them based on the league table right now. Any player would be keen to move to a Premier League club who is flying high over Newcastle at the moment, and who could blame them? Nonetheless, fans should not get their hopes up too much about this one.
