You almost have to admire Mike Ashley. The man clearly could not care less, and despite the mounting pressure on him to sell up, the almost universal disdain of Newcastle United fans, and the complete disregard for the football club he is slowly running into the ground, he has chosen the January transfer window to make a move on doomed HMV, as reported by Sky News. The Magpies desperately need signings to strengthen and stay in the Premier League, and instead he has chosen to invest in another failing high street chain to further monopolise the retail sector and increase his own personal wealth. At this stage, you couldn’t make up the extent of his dastardly dealings in the face of a collapsing football club, and his timing will infuriate the baying Toon faithful even further. This surely has to be the final straw, if it hadn’t already been snapped years ago. It’s hard to see any way in which the owner will be able to show his face at St. James’ Park again if this reported deal comes off, and his disrespect and pettiness towards the club is a clear indication of the esteem he holds it in. Newcastle deserve so much better than an owner like this.
