On paper, this wasn’t a great time to play Man United.
Since Jose Mourinho left and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in, United have scored 12 goals in three games and looked like a completely different team.
Newcastle were almost a match for them though at St James’ Park tonight, eventually going down to a second-half goal from Romelu Lukaku and a second from Marcus Rashford.
Atsu was by far Newcastle’s liveliest player and had the best chances of the game.
However, his finishing let him down – as one fan said he was “having the game of his life. If only he could shoot.”
Another fan said “Atsu has just turned into Messi” and if he’d taken his chances and scored a hat-trick tonight we would have allowed that comparison.
As it was, he ultimately frustrated but also looked “bloody superb” as one fan said.
If they can just work on his finishing in training they might have a real player on their hands.
