Newcastle United must seize the opportunity to land PSG midfielder Christopher Nkunku after his agent suggested that the youth international would be open to a move this January.

The Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcements in both central and wide positions, and the 21-year-old would provide top quality options in both.

The Frenchman has featured 16 times in all competitions for the Champions League side so far this season, but feels as if his career is stagnating in Paris, according to his agent.

As quoted in the Chronicle (11.57), Jose-Pierre Farfan said: “The fact of the matter is that his playing time and his place in the rotation are insufficient.

“Christopher is open to leaving so that he can progress. Nothing has been discussed yet with PSG, but in terms of the footballing situation, this is not good enough.

“He must go to the next level and that is not possible at PSG, especially when he plays without a fixed position.”

If this is true, and not just some bargaining tool being used as leverage, then the Toon Army must make a move to secure his services.

Nkunku may be looking to step up to the next level but that may not necessarily mean a move to a bigger club, and could instead be achieved by making a switch to a club where he was the main man in his position.

Given the lack of quality and depth on Tyneside at the moment, he would surely achieve that at Newcastle, and it could be kickstart he needs tomato himself into one of the most desirable young players in Europe.

It wouldn’t be ideal for a player to use the club as a stepping stone, but if Newcastle got a player of Nkunku’s calibre for a season or two, with the potential for huge profit in the future, then it could be a smart deal.
