Aston Villa are ready to launch a move to try and sign Manchester United’s Timothy Fosu-Mensah with the Dutch utility man told he can leave current loan side Fulham by Clauio Ranieri, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 21-year-old, who has three caps under his belt for the Netherlands and is currently on a temporary deal at the Cottagers, is being lined up by the Villans as a potential alternative to Romaine Sawyers, for who a move would only go ahead in the summer.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Fulham boss Ranieri has said Fosu-Mensah can leave Craven Cottage early, stating: ” If United want him, he can go because with me he does not play often and I understand he is young he needs to play.”

Good move for Aston Villa?

Without a shadow of a doubt.

Fosu-Mensah is a Premier League quality player and would bring some serious talent to the Villa side, not to mention an option who can do a number of jobs for Dean Smith.

The Manchester United man has been utilised in a number of positions across the pitch, usually in midfield but also in defence, Fulham making use of him as a right back.

Villa need extra bodies to bolster the squad and one man who ticks a lot of boxes makes it a worthwhile move for the Championship outfit.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on what Manchester United’s plans are for the youngster.

Do they want him playing regular football, or is it a case of they would rather see him play infrequently in the Premier League than getting game time in the Championship?

Will Fulham really let him leave if United look to cut his deal short, or was Ranieri simply making an example of the youngster?

Will Villa seek a permanent deal or is a loan move all they can afford right now?

The amount of questions that surround this one make it a difficult one to predict and so Villa fans should not hold their breath.
