Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno will quit Liverpool at the end of the season, according to the Times.

The national newspaper claim the first-team stars are set to head out of Anfield for good when their contracts expires in the summer.

The Times report left-back Moreno is likely to return to his native Spain, while Sturridge will also end his lengthy association with the club.

As key members of the first-team squad, if not regulars of the starting XI, Sturridge and Moreno will need to be replaced by Liverpool. All elite clubs need a reserve left-back and a back-up centre-forward, and Sturridge in particular will not be easy to replace. Front men with a goal in every other game record are worth their weight in gold. As former Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock claimed back in September after Sturridge scored against Paris Saint-Germain in the Premier League, “we are talking about having a £50m player at your disposal because he is potentially a world-class striker” (as quoted by the BBC Sport website). Sturridge has not been as effective of late and looked especially rusty in his last start in the FA Cup against Wolves, but he won’t be short of offers, given his eye for goal and the fact he is still only 29. Moreno is three years younger, and will also find it easy to secure a lucrative contract at a new club.
