On a busy day for Liverpool transfers, a major talking point among supporters is the reportedly imminent exit of Nathaniel Clyne to Bournemouth, where he is set to be joined by Dominic Solanke. The striker is in advanced talks over a permanent transfer, while the right-back is set to join on loan for the rest of the season. Mirror correspondent David Maddock reports that Jurgen Klopp is prepared to loan out former England international Clyne because he is satisfied with his alternative options at right-back to first choice Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Rightly so. Joe Gomez is on the comeback trail and offers a superior option to Clyne at right-back, even though he is better at centre-back, as does master-of-all-trades James Milner. Quite why so many Liverpool fans are in meltdown at the exit of a little-used right-back who has slipped way down the pecking order over the last 18 months is rather baffling. Klopp’s decision is spot-on, despite what some are saying.
