Liverpool’s players all “love” Andrew Robertson because of his immense lung-busting effort and endurance, according to Tony Cascarino.

The talkSPORT pundit has gushed over the Scotland captain after naming him as one of seven Anfield men in his combined Manchester City and Liverpool XI ahead of tonight’s Premier League top-of-the-table showdown.

“He’s got ten lungs,” Cascarino told the Times. “I’ve never seen a player have such endurance over 90 minutes, at such high-tempo, and that’s why all of his team-mates love him.”

OPINION

There is no doubt about the team-first ethic of Robertson, who must be a joy to play with and it is hard to dispute Cascarino’s claim that all his teammates must adore him. The Scot’s remarkable improvement over the last 12 months is testimony not only to Jurgen Klopp’s nous at when and how to introduce a new signing into the first team, but the player’s willingness to take on board his coach’s instructions. Robertson’s lung-busting raids up and down the left flank have been integral to Liverpool’s sensational league campaign as well as their surge to last season’s Champions League final. If there is a better left-back in the world – and that includes at the Spanish giants who appear to have a lock-down on such personal gongs – he is hiding himself well. Robertson is simply the best and an untouchable who Liverpool can’t afford to do without.
