Liverpool are weighing up a £20million bid this month for Bundesliga sensation Weston McKennie, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the Merseyside giants have set their sights on the 20-year-old Schalke midfielder after two impressive seasons in the Bundesliga for the USA international.

The Sun report Jurgen Klopp rates McKennie as a “future star” and the manager is lining up a move by 31 January or in the summer for a player who “has similar potential on and off the pitch” to countryman Christian Pulisic.

Good move for Liverpool?

McKennie’s profile certainly ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool, who have played the transfer market better than any club in Europe over the last three years. Led by the outstanding Michael Edwards, the Merseyside giants have found astonishing value by signing players ready to break into the world’s elite for relatively affordable fees. McKennie is a seven-times USA international and already has valuable Bundesliga experience, making 45 appearances for Schalke. He is in and out of the German club’s starting XI, but is clearly a player with a big future. He may not be the answer to Liverpool’s need for a midfield master right now, but could be in the future.
