OPINION
Idrissa Gueye has been a bit of a mixed bag for Everton this season, but that certainly was not the case on New Year’s Day despite the 1-0 loss to Leicester at Goodison Park. Like one fan pointed out, he looked like the Gueye of old, something which this supporter is clearly excited about. When Gueye is on form, they certainly know about it – just like times when he has been abysmal. However, this was not the most convincing performance from the Toffees – they pretty much failed to create anything in the first half, and were just as woeful as they were against Brighton at the weekend. Gueye was arguably their shining light, which has been reinforced by the fact that one supporter thought he was the best player on the pitch “by a mile”. He will no doubt take confidence from this display, and fans will obviously be hoping that next time his good form reflects a good result. Overall, it is hard not to agree with the supporters and their verdicts here, as Gueye really was excellent on Tuesday.

Gueye been the best player on the pitch by a distance. Walcott has been woeful.

Truly diabolical first half of football that. Gueye outstanding, Walcott yet again awful. ? #EFC

#EFC marginally the better of the two sides without having really done enough to deserve lead. Kenny & Gueye standouts so far

Gomes and Gueye compliment each other so much in our midfield #EVELEI
