Stan Collymore has delivered a damning verdict on Everton after their 1-0 loss to Leicester at home on New Year’s Day, claiming there are ‘too many coasting’ in the Toffees squad.

Leicester won a tight encounter thanks to a second-half goal from Jamie Vardy, who profited from a mistake by centre-back Michael Keane to slot the visitors into a lead they never relinquished.

Former Liverpool star Collymore has now delivered his view on the situation at Goodison Park, with the outspoken pundit calling on manager Marco Silva to bring in some new faces.

OPINION

While many Everton fans will want to argue with ex-Liverpool ace Collymore, the truth is that he is spot on here. The Toffees were pretty woeful against Leicester on Tuesday and cannot complain about the result. They may have dominated possession but they didn’t do anything with the ball, and ended up paying the price for a defensive error. Despite some heavy spending over the past two windows, and a new manager in Marco Silva, things somehow seem a bit stale at Goodison Park. There are, as Collymore points out, a few players coasting in this squad who need to buck up their ideas or move on. Fresh blood is also needed, with there being several areas of the squad which need strengthening as soon as possible. Above all, there is a need for a new striker in January, with the current crop of attackers really struggling to find the back of the net.
