Everton scouts were in attendance as Benfica beat Rio Ave 4-2 in the Primeira Liga on Sunday, according to Scouts in Attendance.

The reliable Twitter account, which has become a renowned source on European clubs’ scouting activity, report that Toffees officials jetted out to Lisbon to take in the match alongside several of Europe’s big-hitters.

They add that young star Joao Felix scored twice for Benfica, although they stop short of suggesting that Everton were specifically scouting the 19-year-old.

OPINION

It is interesting to hear that Everton had scouts in attendance as Benfica beat Rio Ave on Sunday, with the January transfer window now in full swing. The Toffees are yet to make any signings, although it has been just a week since the window began, with most Premier League sides still to make any movements. It is yet to be seen if the Toffees will indeed sign anyone, but you would think that manager Marco Silva does want to bring in one or two new faces. Things seemed to have stagnated slightly in recent weeks for Everton on the pitch, with results not going their way. The Toffees have slipped into the bottom half of the Premier League, and Silva’s record is in fact worse at this point in his Everton career than predecessor Sam Allardyce. Felix would be an interesting target for the club, although it is unlikely the young star will end up at Goodison Park, with some real big-hitters keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.
