Bristol City want to sign Everton midfielder Joe Williams in a £1million deal, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper’s print edition (Sunday January 6th, page 63) claim that Championship club wish to put the Toffees player at the heart of their team.

The Sun report that Williams could have his current loan at Bolton cancelled if another club makes a cash offer for his services.

Good Move for Everton?

It depends as £1million doesn’t sound like a lot of money for a potentially promising prospect, however at the age of 22-years-old maybe it’s time to move him off the Toffees books as he’s not on the verge of breaking into the first-team.

Williams has never managed to make an appearance for the Toffees’ senior team with him instead being a regular fixture of their U-23s’ side.

However this season the 22-year-old midfield anchor has looked very good for Bolton in the 19 appearances he has made for him, and the Championship is a hard to division to flourish in.

Given that Williams’ contract isn’t set to expire until 2020, perhaps the Toffees need to think carefully before sanctioning his permanent exit.

Likely to happen?

No bid has been made of yet but with a reasonable seven-figure deal being mooted when explaining Bristol City’s desire for him, it does sound like a move that could develop.

The Sun detailed how Bolton wouldn’t be able to match Bristol City’s potential £1million offer for Williams, but then if the Toffees do make movements towards selling the 22-year-old, perhaps other Championship outfits will join the race.

There’s definitely a chance this deal will develop, but it’s too early to say it’s going to happen with any certainty.
