Anderlecht are trying to sign Everton winger Yannick Bolasie before the transfer window cut-off, according to Kristof Terreur.

The England-based correspondent of Belgian newspaper HLN reported on his personal Twitter account on deadline-day afternoon that the Belgium big guns are working on a loan deal for the 29-year-old.

Terreur explained that former Everton forward Romelu Lukaku has told Bolasie “some nice things about his former club”.

With a salary that the Daily Telegraph report is worth £70,000-a-week, getting Bolasie off the wage bill is no easy task for the Merseyside club. The winger spent the first half of the season in the Championship at Aston Villa but his form was mixed and the deal was terminated earlier this month. Villa were said to have paid the entirety of Bolasie’s salary, but finding another club willing to do the same is no easy task for Everton, given that he does not look the player he was during his time at Crystal Palace. That said, Bolasie could make a big impact in Belgium, where the less brutal physical demands could suit a player who wants the ball at his feet to run at defenders and show off his wide range of tricks. Bolasie’s strength has never been tracking back and working up and down the flank. He is a maverick and a crowd-pleaser who is at his best when he has licence to have fun.
