OPINION
How can Manchester City win a whopping 9-0 against Burton Albion, yet one of their attackers gets torn to shreds on Twitter by a section of fans? Riyad Mahrez is one of the biggest scapegoats going at the Etihad right now. No matter what he does, he just cannot get into the good books of supporters, who are blasting him for his performance pretty much every time he plays, even if he scores and gets assists. Man City knew what they were getting when they got Mahrez. The 27-year-old was brilliant for Leicester but he was never going to be able to reproduce his glittering King Power performances at the Etihad because he is no longer a big fish in a small pond. He is surrounded by players better or at a similar level to him now and it doesn’t make him look as good as he used to. Maybe Man City fans will take to Mahrez soon, or maybe they won’t. Either way it’s not going to stop Pep Guardiola from playing the Algeria international pretty much every week.
