Manolo Gabbiadini is on the verge of wrapping up an exit from Southampton, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The reporter has claimed via his personal Twitter account that a deal is “done” for Gabbiadini, 27, to join Sampdoria on loan, with the Serie A club having an obligation to buy the striker.

That means that Gabbiadini’s exit from St Mary’s will become permanent in the summer.

Good move for Southampton?

If Ralph Hasenhuttl doesn’t see a future for Gabbiadini at Southampton then yes, it is a very good move.

According to statistics website Spotrac, he earns £80,000-a-week on his deal with the Saints, so getting him off the wagebill, plus the promise of a transfer fee in the summer, is a good way for the club to cut their costs on him.

Although Gabbiadini was quality for Southampton when he first joined, his contribution has diminished with just one goal in 15 total appearances this season.

He probably won’t be missed.

Likely to happen?

Judging by Romano’s claim, the deal is done, however neither of the clubs have announced the news just yet.

It does appear as though the transfer will be wrapped up soon and Sampdoria will seal a return for their former centre-forward.
