Liverpool are unlikely to sign Wolves captain Conor Coady this month, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed via their live transfer blog on Tuesday [04:18pm] that suggestions the defender could be on his way back to Anfield are wide of the mark.

The Daily Mail recently reported that the Reds are in the hunt to sign Coady, who has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this season and could earn himself a new deal due to his good form.

However judging by this new update, it seems that the chances of Jurgen Klopp luring the 25-year-old back to Merseyside are very low.

OPINION

This is good news for Wolves fans. Coady was a pretty average player until Nuno Espirito Santo arrived at the club. He was often used as a defensive midfielder, but Nuno moved him into his back-three and boom, Wolves had themselves a top ball-playing centre-half. Not many would have predicted Coady’s rise from being a run of the mill Championship player to a coveted Premier League captain, but here we are. It would be strange for Liverpool to be interested in him. He obviously works well in Nuno’s system, and that is completely different to what Klopp plays at Anfield. It just seems like the Daily Mail have put two and two together amid the current defensive injury crisis at Anfield. Coady won’t be going anywhere, not for a long-time at least. Once he pens this new deal, Wolves will have themselves their captain for a long time to come.
