Tottenham might not have made any signings either over summer or in the January transfer market but that has not stopped chairman Daniel Levy from getting players to put pen to paper – albeit on new contracts in north London.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen have all agreed to new terms with Spurs, manager Mauricio Pochettino joining in to commit his long term future to the club.

However, there is one name which remains missing from that list – one of the most important players at the club today – in the shape of Christian Eriksen.

The Dane’s current deal expires in the summer of 2020, leaving him with less than 18 months to either pen a new contract or find a new club before he is able to leave on a free – the worst case scenario for Spurs.

Now there has been plenty of speculation over where Eriksen could end up if he were to depart, with Real Madrid seeming like the most likely destination as the Spaniards reportedly chase his capture with real intent.

That is of course until now, with reputable Spanish publication AS making the hugely significant claim that Los Blancos are set to shelve their interest over Spurs’ asking price – but also claiming that Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all still in pursuit.

Without Real Madrid in the hunt, Spurs will feel much more confident in keeping Eriksen in north London – none of the other sides holding the dame draw as the La Liga heavyweights – but to keep him on board it means that Levy has to pull his finger out and give the Danish star what he wants.

Losing him would be a massive blow and with the frontrunners for his capture seemingly out of the race, Spurs can believe that he will stay on if the right deal is offered his way.
