Everton’s festive fixture congestion has clearly had an impact on Andre Gomes’ performances with the Portugal international having yet another poor showing for the Blues in their 1-0 defeat to Leicester at Goodison Park on New Year’s Day. Understandably, a section of Everton fans have ripped into the on-loan playmaker, but this is perhaps something that Marco Silva needs to hold his hands up for and admit it’s his fault. Gomes is used to having a break from football at this time of year and the midfielder has struggled with injury in 2018. He only made his 13th appearance of the season against Leicester on Tuesday, having only made his debut in October. If anyone was going to suffer over this period, it was going to be Gomes, who has now been substituted off in the last four games, despite completing 90 minutes in the eight games beforehand. Hopefully the Portuguese ace can get back to his best soon.
