Sunderland defender Bryan Oviedo is on his way to West Bromwich Albion’s training ground ahead of a potential move to the club, according to Express and Star reporter Matt Wilson.

The reliable journalist reported via his personal Twitter account that the 28-year-old left-back could be joining West Brom from Sunderland ahead of the transfer window shutting.

Wilson also stated in his tweet that Ovideo arriving at the club could see the 20-year-old WBA left-back Conor Townsend go out on loan.

Good move for West Brom?

It’s hard to know without the finances behind the deal being revealed.

Oviedo has made 20 appearances for Sunderland this season, with 16 of those being made in League One, and he hasn’t exactly looked a cut above the rest of the players in that division.

The 28-year-old, who has 50 caps for Costa Rica, has previously looked decent when performing in the Championship and Premier League, but you think he’d be excelling in League One if he was that good.

However West Brom seem determined to strengthen anyway they can in the current window and perhaps taking a chance on Ovideo may be able to help them, and will pay off regarding their promotion push.

Likely to happen?

Yes, given the fact that Ovideo is on his way to the training ground to make significant progress regarding moving to the club.

The 28-year-old clearly is open to joining the Baggies and leaving Sunderland behind, given this action and it all seems like there’s a chance it could go through.

However there’s still a slim chance this deal could fall through, given that it hasn’t be confirmed that a deal has been reached between the two clubs and the fact that time is running down on the transfer window to get a deal done.
