Bournemouth are willing to sell giant defender Tyrone Mings amid strong interest from four Championship clubs, according to a reliable journalist.

The Sun’s Football League correspondent Tom Barclay reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that Aston Villa, West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Hull City are all keen to sign the 25-year-old this month.

Barclay explained that the Bournemouth are willing to offload 6ft 5in [Transfermarkt] Mings on a permanent sale rather than a loan.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Definitely. Mings is the kind of player Villa desperately need to bring authority and order to their back line. The defender’s three-and-a-half years at Bournemouth have been ruined by injury, but he has showed in his fleeting appearances that he can make a big impact at a high level. Aged 25, there is still time of Mings’ side and he can still become the player he was always expected to be, when making the grade at former club Ipswich Town.

Likely to happen?

Very possibly, yes. There is plenty of competition for Mings’ signature, and this is not an easy deal for Villa to do. But, encouragingly, Bournemouth are open to selling Mings after reportedly finalising the capture of Brentford centre-back Chris Mepham. Villa will need to sign Mings on a permanent deal, but they showed with their own bid for Mepham that is said to have amounted to more than the £12million the Cherries are paying they are willing to bankroll a marquee January centre-back signing.
