Leeds are paying around £1.5million to secure the transfer of Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, according to a BBC journalist.

Adam Pope made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday evening ahead of a reported medical on Wednesday.

The YEP reported on Tuesday that Casilla is jetting in to take a medical ahead of an 18-month deal.

Pope said it will cost Leeds “in the region of €1.7m to buy-out Casilla from the 18 months remaining on his contract.”

OPINION

The deal for Casilla is a bit complicated in that it involves buying the goalkeeper out of his current contract. However, at £1.5m Leeds are getting a real bargain, and a goalkeeper who should walk straight into the number one spot at Elland Road. Leeds reported first-choice target was Karl Darlow from Newcastle but that fell down when they wanted £4million. Getting Casilla for less than half of that is an absolute masterstroke from Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani, and could go down as one of the bargains of the winter window. Casilla is Premier League quality and will be one of the best keepers in the Championship. he could easily win Leeds enough points to make the difference between winning the Championship, and clinging on for the play-offs. Leeds fans should be very excited and they’ll be waiting anxiously for news on the medical tomorrow – one that’s sure to be a comprehensive one given his age and the fact he hasn’t played for a while.
