Leeds have opened talks with 19-year-old winger Robbie Gott over a new contract, according to Football Insider.

In an exclusive, they claim that Leeds are keen to extend his time at Elland Road – his current deal expires in the summer.

He’s said to be highly-rated at Leeds, although he’s yet to make his senior debut despite being named on the bench this season for the 3-2 wins against Aston Villa and Blackburn.

OPINION

Gotts is the latest in a string of talented youngsters at Leeds, waiting on the sidelines for a break into the first-team. Gotts has impressed – enough to earn a new deal, but not enough to make his debut on Sunday in the FA Cup. It was thought he could play, with Bielsa set to rotate after a busy Christmas schedule. However, Bielsa has confirmed his starting XI for the game against QPR, with Jack Clarke, Leif Davis and Jamie Shackleton all set to play. There’s no place in the starting XI for Gotts but he could well be on the bench again and he might make his senior debut. With Bielsa and Carlos Corberan maintaining really close links between the senior team and the Under-23s, there’s no better time to be a youngster at Elland Road, and we wish Gotts all the luck in the world as he aims to forge a successful career at Leeds.
