Some Leeds fans might be getting a bit itchy as their side’s pursuit of Swansea winger Daniel James drags on.

He has been named the club’s number one target but all the noise coming out from Elland Road is that the two sides are haggling over the fee.

A week ago, Mirror journalist David Anderson claimed that Leeds were prepared to walk away as they couldn’t agree on a deal.

Since then it’s gone quiet, although regular updates have suggested that Leeds are still confident a deal can be struck.

Meanwhile, the transfer deadline is looming and we can imagine that Leeds fans will be getting a bit wary.

However, as Phil Hay, senior reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Post has acknowledged, one factor is currently working in Leeds’ favour. And the longer it goes on, the better Leeds’ chances of landing the 21-year-old.

Swansea need to raise funds and lower wages and, as one fan pointed out, “the closer it gets to the end of January, without Swansea getting funds from other sales, the more willing they are to sell James and at potentially a better deal for Leeds.”

Hay, a very reliable source of Leeds information, simply replied “This”.

If it’s a game of brinksmanship, a case of who blinks first, then all the cards are stacked in Leeds’ favour.

Swansea haven’t managed to offload any other players and time is running out for them. This could be why Hay has been saying that Leeds are confident of securing a deal, and it could be that they get themselves a bargain towards the end of the window.
