Leeds have been looking at Steven Zuber for a while, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, but haven’t made an offer yet.

Zuber is the latest player that Leeds have been linked to in the January transfer window, with German outlet Bild claiming that Bundesliga club Hoffenheim are willing to sell with Leeds in the frame.

However, Bild also claimed that Zuber, a Switzerland international, might not be willing to drop down to the Championship.

Phil Hay, one of the most reliable sources of Leeds transfer information, confirmed that Leeds had been looking at him “for a while” but added, “No offer at this stage.”

OPINION

Leeds are top of the league after a brilliant 2018 under Marcelo Bielsa but they’ve just lost two games on the bounce for the first time all season. There’s no need to panic but looking at the Leeds’ bench, you have to wonder whether Bielsa would have played the same team for the fourth game in quick succession had he had better options to call on. We really hope Leeds make a couple of quality signings in January. They’ve got a really good chance of automatic promotion, the best they’ve had since they were relegated 15 years ago but their squad is small and there’s a feeling that a couple more bodies are needed – especially as their nearest promotion rivals are already adding players. Given that they could be playing Premier League football next year and that Bielsa is their manager, they should be able to attract a better quality of player. Would that include Zuber? Very possibly. He’s a very good player who scored against Brazil in the World Cup, but he’s not playing regularly for Hoffenheim. It might be a reach but Leeds should be looking for Premier League-quality players now.
