Leeds United striker Adrian Balboa is set to join Spanish third-tier club Vilafranca after terminating his loan at Terrassa, according to Diari De Terrassa.

The Spanish outlet claim the forward, 20, will move to Vilafranca for the rest of the season as they take over the season-long contract he had with their division rivals.

Terrassa announced on their official website on Thursday night that they had granted Balboa’s request to leave the club with immediate effect after his lack of game time this season.

With a Leeds contract that runs until 2020 after joining in the summer of 2017 in a blizzard of youth-team arrivals, Balboa has time on his side to make a mark at Elland Road. To do that, he needs to be playing regular football, and that is why he has ripped up his deal at Terrassa after being barely used in the opening half of the campaign. The Barcelona-born youngster has taken matters into his own hands by pushing for a move to Vilafranca, who are direct rivals of Terrassa. Leeds will be as eager as the player himself that he gets the opportunity to play far more often than he did before Christmas. Recruitment chief Victor Orta used his Spanish contacts to bring in plenty of youngsters from his homeland two summers ago, but the jury is out on whether Balboa will make it at Leeds. With the likes of Sam Dalby ahead of him in the Under-23s pecking order, he needs to start banging in the goals to show the Yorkshire giants what he is made of.
