The Mirror’s David Anderson has claimed that the EFL have a “wide range” of sanctions that they can apply to Leeds but he said a points deduction will not be one of them.
The EFL announced an investigation today into ‘spygate’ after Marcelo Bielsa admitted to sending an employee to watch Derby train.
There’s no specific rule or law that’s been broken but the EFL have said that they will “consider this matter in the context of a number of EFL Regulations whilst also noting that the alleged actions appear to contravene the Club’s Charter that all EFL Clubs agreed to in summer 2018.”
That’s left Leeds fans, who already think the EFL don’t like them, sweating over a possible points deduction that could threaten their promotion bid.
However, Anderson said, “It won’t be a points deduction or something draconian like that.”
EFL finally launch a formal investigation into ‘spygate’. Have asked Leeds for their observations. Have a wide range of sanctions available to them if they find Leeds guilty, although it won’t be a points deduction or something draconian like that. #LUFC

OPINION
Leeds fans are wary of the EFL and perhaps they’ve got cause to be but we can’t see any way that they would inflict a points deduction on Leeds over something so stupid as this. The Leeds employee was watching from a public place and, okay, maybe it’s against the unwritten rules of sportsmanship, but so are plenty of other things that get ignored every week. If the EFL were to do anything that could have an impact on how the Championship was decided then they’d turn the league into a laughing stock, and we don’t think they dislike Leeds enough to do that. We actually think a fine would be too draconian but that’s where our money is, although we hope that the EFL just sends them a letter reminding them of their duties in the game. Bielsa must be wondering what’s going on with the crazy Brits and, to be honest, we are too.
