OPINION
Celtic fans should be jealous about this one – and that’s probably why so many are talking about it. Rangers have announced that Jermain Defoe has signed from Bournemouth on an 18-month loan in a deal that will surely play a major role in the Gers’ bid to win the Scottish Premiership title. Naturally, the news has attracted a huge reaction from the other side of Glasgow with some Celtic fans trolling their bitter rivals for signing the 36-year-old – or admitting it’s a good signing. Even though Defoe is approaching the end of his career, it’s a superb signing by Steven Gerrard. Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller have proved in the last year or so that age has no barrier when it comes to scoring goals in the Scottish Premiership, so expect Defoe to hit double figures in the second half of the campaign. Brendan Rodgers’ side need to respond to this – and not by signing more English Championship players on loan.
