Celtic chief scout Lee Congerton is being eyed up by Anderlecht, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that Frank Arnesen will join the Belgian giants as their new technical director later this week and wants to revamp the club’s scouting network.

It is understood that Congerton, who has been widely-criticised by Celtic fans for his work in the last two transfer windows, views Arsenen as a “mentor and role model” having worked alongside him at both Chelsea and Hamburg.

OPINION

Although Celtic fans are not exactly happy with Congerton’s work during the last 12 months, it would be a huge blow for the club to lose their chief scout with the January transfer window now open. Congerton would have done a lot of field work before this transfer window, however he can still play a vital role in the Bhoys’ recruitment up until the end of the month, so losing him now could be a problem. Brendan Rodgers has to make a number of signings this month in order to improve a squad that has not looked as strong as it has done this season. The defeat to Rangers last week proved that reinforcements were needed and all eyes will be on whether or not Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond can make something happen. Celtic need one or two strikers, a right-back and maybe two new centre-backs before the end of the month while offloading some of the existing deadwood would also be a good idea.
