Aston Villa’s talks to sign Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings have hit the skids after the Premier League club demanded a seven-figure loan fee for the 25-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Wednesday [11:55am] that the Cherries want £1million for Mings, who West Brom have also been in discussions about a potential loan deal.

It is understood that Bournemouth’s talks with the West Midlands rivals have now stalled.

OPINION

Aston Villa still need to strengthen their defence before the January transfer window closes in just over 24 hours’ time. Dean Smith has only signed goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic and defender Kortney Hause so far this month, and Hause has hardly shown that he is the answer to the club’s defensive woes. Mings was tipped to have a bright future during his days at Ipswich but the 6ft 5 (transfermarkt) defender has struggled to play regularly in the Premier League and a step down to the Championship may be in order. He is a left-sided centre-back who can play at left-back, similar to Hause. Villa could do with a centre-back and a left-back before 11pm on Thursday, not just one player who can effectively kill two birds with one stone. Bournemouth’s £1million demand is a bit excessive but Villa may be able to whittle that down in time for the deadline. Smith will definitely need an out-and-out left-back as well though.
